London Early Years Foundation

Providing quality, affordable and accessible early years care across London

Overview

LEYF runs 39 nurseries across 12 London boroughs, delivering high quality early years education and care to children aged from birth to five years. All of LEYF’s nurseries are rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, with the majority of sites located in ‘deprived’ areas of the capital. LEYF is one of the largest providers of funded places in London, utilising government funding and surplus generated by its business model to ensure as many children as possible get the best start in life. Through its London Institute of Early Years, LEYF aims to share best practice, innovation and the latest research to drive change across the sector.

Why we support LEYF

The provision of quality early years care is vital to a child’s development, particularly those from more disadvantaged backgrounds. However, for too many families across London, high-quality childcare is out of reach.
LEYF is addressing this problem by using surplus generated from nurseries in more affluent areas to cross-subsidise operations in disadvantaged areas where there wouldn’t otherwise be high-quality nursery provision. LEYF also uses its financial resources and government funding to offer lower fees in areas of deprivation, going above and beyond to support families and local communities, ensuring as many of London's children as possible get the best start in life.
