We are pleased to announce that Social Business Trust has welcomed Soil Association into our portfolio of social enterprises.
With a mission to transform the way we eat, farm and care for our natural world, Soil Association works across the entire food system to drive lasting environmental and social change. Through its diverse activities including Food for Life, Farming and Land Use, Soil Association Certification, Soil Association Exchange and Soil Association Land Trust, the charity promotes healthy food choices, sustainable farming practices and environmental conservation. Its work supports improved public health outcomes, fosters biodiversity and helps ensure a safe and stable climate for future generations.
At SBT, we build long-term, trust-based partnerships, aligning ourselves with the ambitions of the organisations we support. Soil Association marks an exciting milestone for SBT as our first investment focused on the environment, establishing a new theme within our portfolio.
Over the next 4 years, SBT will support Soil Association to scale its impact, enabling more communities, farmers and organisations to transition towards sustainable and regenerative practices, helping to create a future where healthy and sustainable food, farming, and forestry are accessible for all.
Joanne Hay, CEO, Social Business Trust commented:
“Soil Association’s work sits at the heart of some of the most urgent challenges we face today, from climate change to public health. Their holistic approach to transforming food and farming systems reflects both the scale of the problem and the opportunity for meaningful change. We’re particularly excited that this partnership marks the start of a new environmental theme for SBT, and we’re proud to support the team as they work to create a healthier, more sustainable future.”
Helen Browning OBE, CEO, Soil Association commented:
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Social Business Trust at such a critical time for our work. Transforming the food system requires collaboration, innovation and long-term commitment, and SBT’s support will help us accelerate our impact across farming, food and environmental stewardship. Together, we can drive the systemic change needed to benefit both people and the planet.”
Hugh Unwin, Investment Director and Co-Head of Technical Asset Management, Schroders Greencoat commented:
“Soil Association is playing a vital role in reshaping how we produce and consume food, with clear benefits for health, nature and the climate. This partnership with SBT will enable them to expand their reach and deepen their impact across the UK. It’s a privilege for me to support the team in delivering such important work.”
